HTC phones are famous for their UI, especially the sleek and stylish flip clock gadget. We have previously featured HTC flip clock gadget for Windows 7, which displayed date and time in HTC fashion on desktop. However this widget did not work on 64 bit Windows 7.
Now we have an HTC flip clock + animated weather application which works on all versions of Windows, including Windows 7, Vista, and XP on both 32 bit and 64 bit systems. Called HTC Home for Windows, this is a standalone app, not requiring any installation.
Download and extract the zip file to your desktop (link at end). Double click on HTCHome.exe (HTCHome(x64).exe for 64 bit systems) to run the application.
Initially the widget may be stuck for a while in retrieving your location for the weather forecast. If it does not succeed in locating you correctly (it showed New York for us while we are half the globe across from that city!), don’t worry. Right click on the widget and select Settings.
In the Location tab, you can search for your city and apply it for weather forecast.
From the General tab, you can change various settings for HTC Home for Windows. You can disable weather animation or weather display all together, change the widget size (Small, Medium, Big, Very Big), position it anywhere on your desktop, enable wallpaper rotation, and so on.
Select the check box ‘Autostart with Windows’ if you don’t want to start the application every time you restart your PC. You may need a restart for some of the changes to take effect.
The Weather tab lets you choose the Weather provider (Accuweather or MSN), interval between updates, temperature and time format settings. You can either select ‘Keep HTC Home on top of all other Windows’ or right click and ‘Pin’ to keep it floated on top.
The settings window is also accessible by clicking on the system tray icon of HTC Home for Windows.
