VLC 2.0 is now officially available for download. The release candidate was released earlier this month and the final version of the open source VLC media player is now being termed as a major release of the software.
The new VLC 2.0 is a major new version of the popular media player and is codenamed as “Twoflower”. It comes packed with several new features alongwith some changes to the existing user interface which provides a quite refreshing change. In addition to the UI changes, there is a big change in the case of the Mac version.
VLC 2.0 also comes packed with some interesting features such as faster decoding on multi-core processors, GPUs, and mobile hardware, and the ability to open yet more file formats, including a number HD formats used by professional users. The most striking feature of the latest release is support forBlu-Ray playback, although it’s still being termed as an experimental feature at this point of time. It also promises to fix several hundred bugs which have been encountered in the earlier releases of the popular media player, thereby providing with an enhanced and effective release. Despite the new added and enhanced features, it remains completely free for all users.
