Tips To Root Samsung galaxy Nexus

Rooting of a Samsung Galaxy Nexus is extremely essential to unlock the full potential of the phone and to enable it to play all the apps and all the games made for the device. Rooting of a Samsung Nexus is a very easy process if one is able to follow the below mentioned 7 steps. It will hardly cost a couple of minutes to the user. However, there is a pre-requisite for this – the device which has to be rooted must have the galaxynexus-superboot.zip file present in it.

1. The first step involves extracting the zip file to a folder in the phone.
2. Next, turn off the phone.
3. In the next step, the device has to be put in the bootloader mode. This can be done easily by holding simultaneously the volume up and volume down button. The device will put itself to the bootloader mode at once.
4. At this stage, the Nexus will need the help of a PC to get rooted. Using a data cable, the Nexus should be connected to the PC.

5. The users having a Galaxy Nexus retail version, for them an extra step awaits- unlocking the bootloader. Those using the regular version can continue to the next step. Simply double clicking on ‘fastboot-windows.exe’ from the file where the superboot zip was extracted.
6. Windows users need to double click on ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’ and the device rooting is done.
For users who find these steps problematic can follow another set of steps to root their Nexus.
7. The first step will be to download the superboot zip file in a pc and extract it.
8. The next step is to USB debugging on by the user and then go to settings.
9. The phone has to be plugged to the pc foer the next step to be carried out.
10. Super root folder is opened and the shift key is held down. After that, blank spaces have to be clicked. A window named open command opens on its own.
11. Keep the next button pressed each time it appears on a new window.
12. Once the app is loaded, the phone will show a display window asking the user to confirm. Once done, the phone will go to the bootloader mode back again.
13. The user has to use the PC again and go to installation window of the super boot and click it.
The rooting is done. The device is ready. It is ready for all the apps and games, even those which require a rooting permission before running on an android platform. A custom ROM is advisable to be installed in the phone in order to get the maximum out of your recently rooted phone. The above mentioned technique varies only slightly from the previous one but is advantageous in the sense it works for both the variations of the phone- the GSM as well as the LTE variety. So your Nexus is like a tree now- keep it rooted and keep enjoy the fruits (APPS)!

Programs to clean registry and unnecessary files from your hard

PC users say they get out of space on the system partition, while they installed only the necessary applications: browser, office suite, photo editing software, multimedia player and antivirus. In addition to lack of space, another drawback is that it brought to the “Windows is going hard.”

Maybe the causes are familiar to you but I will mention a few of them:

  •      Presence of viruses or other malicious software (spyware, bloatware, crapware);
  •      Registers loaded with useless information;
  •      Numerous applications in start-up;
  •      Temporary files scattered on your hard disk and files browser cache.
What I have to say is that won’t solve if you don’t do anything about it, because Windows does not integrate another “authority” to cleanse the system automatically and especially effective. And tools provided (eg Disk Cleaner) are also not too east.
There are some applications that clean your hard disk, freeing up space elsewhere and deleting unnecessary registry data. Some of them also resolve a number of malware and Trojans. Here is one of the best app I know:
Piriform CCleaner
CCleaner is very popular for its simplicity and effectiveness. Furthermore, is free. Loose interface provides us with some effective weapons that can operate with a single click: cleaning temporary files, cache, cookies and other specific browsers, cleaning registry, startup configuration and uninstalling applications.
To have control on information about to be deleted, you can check or uncheck the boxes associated to integral part of various sections (browser, explorer, system registry). If you do not want to risk deleting certain data, you can opt for a back-up before the application to execute tasks.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800i Unlocked Phone and Gaming Device with Android OS and Slide-Out GamepadThe main feature of Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is its gaming. The phone has a gaming battery life of 5hrs, which is pretty good considering the large screen and 1 GHz processor. The Xperia PLAY comes with a Li-Ion 1500mAh battery with a talk time of 8 hr 25 min (2G) & 6 hr 25 min (3G).

Display
This part eats up most of the battery in any portable device. The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY has a very bright 4 inch LCD display with sharp and crisp detail. The more is the brightness of the screen the more is the power consumption. The phone has a proximity sensor which turns off the screen when the phone is close to your ears while calling. Following are some tips to save power
  • Keep the brightness of the screen to an optimum level
  • Choose a darker wallpaper or theme for the phone. This helps in saving power as a brighter picture would use more power.
  • Adjust the screen timeout to a minimum so that the power is not wasted when not in use.
GPS
This features helps in pinpointing your location and navigating. The navigation feature consumes a lot of power as the GPS receiver in the phone needs to search for the available satellite constantly to pinpoint its position. In addition to that the application also uses the GPRS network for real-time information of places and for map updates. Following are some tips to save power
  • When using the navigation keep the network assist OFF. The navigation doesn`t really require network support as the maps can be preinstalled. Turn it ON when really required.
  • You can also turn OFF the turn by turn voice feature if not required. The map displays enough information for navigation.
  • Turn the satellite positioning OFF when you’re just checking out the map and not navigating. Remember you can still detect you`re approx. location through the network assist feature.
  • The latitude feature in Google maps enables you to share your location with your friends in real-time. But this feature updates your location in few time intervals, hence consuming power. It is recommended to turn the auto location feature off, use it manually.
Connectivity
The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY comes with many connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE etc. Some tips to save power
  • Wi-Fi scan should be turned off unless required. Unnecessarily turned on Wi-Fi drains your battery because it constantly scans for networks.
  • Bluetooth should always be turned off unless required.
  • Remember 3G networks reduce your talk time to almost half.
Connectivity
Applications
The android is known for its apps which makes it a useful and fun experience. The apps access many feature like Bluetooth, GPRS, WLAN, etc. All this drains the battery. Following are tips to keep the apps in check.
  • Many apps require GPRS network connections to update. This causes power loss as the apps use the network in the background. Hence it is recommended to turn off the apps auto update feature. And only update the required one manually.
  • Many applications in android run in the background without the user even knowing, this ends up in drained battery. Control background running applications by using the built in task manager
  • No additional task manger applications are required because they themselves eat up a lot of power as they run in the background.
Firmware
Firmwares for android are updated by the company as required. It is necessary to update your firmware to the latest.

  • The latest firmware for this phone is v2.3.4(Gingerbread) which is a lot more efficient in saving battery life. Hence it is recommended to update your device.
General tips
  • As Xperia PLAY is a gaming phone it gets discharged quickly if the game is constantly ON. Hence it is recommended to quit the game after your done and not just press the back button as it leaves the game running in the background sometimes.
  • Keep the media volume at optimum levels. Use ear phones if possible.
  • Auto rotation of screen must be turned OFF in order to save battery. Auto rotation uses accelerometer and if the usage is restricted then it can help in increasing battery life.
  • Avoid overcharging the battery because it could damage it and reduce its life.

How to Enable or Disable Apps running in Background on Android ICS Devices

With over 450,000 apps and counting on the Play Store, there are many applications which run in the background without the permisson of the user, making the phone much slower and also sometimes, by collecting some data in the background etc.

For this purpose, one could use Task Managers or Task Killer applications which are available aplenty in the Android Play Store or even some widgets which can kill all the running apps in the background in one click. However, sometimes it might be disadvantageous. Say Skype is running the background and you want to kill it, one could do so manually or use a third party task manager app. However, some of these apps from unknown developers do not kill just the app but also some processes that are used by the app which are also required for the phone’s normal functioning. By disabling the app, it totally disappears from the app drawer as well and no third party app can execute it.
Thus, it is recommended to use trusted Task manager applications or the default one in Android, which is the best alternative. To use this, follow these instructions :
  1. Open the App drawer from your homescreen and choose Settings. Alternatively, ICS devices also have a quick shortcut to settings from the notification bar when pulled down from the top.
  2. Once you’re into settings, choose ‘Apps’ from the list there.
  3. Here, you will see three tabs on the top namely ‘On SD Card’ , ‘Running’  and ‘All’ .
  4. Tap on All and you’ll be taken into the screen displaying all the installed apps on your phone along with default stock apps of Android.
  5. Choose the app that you want to stop and you’ll get two boxes named ‘Force Stop’ and ‘Disable’ .
  6. Tap on the ‘Disable’ button and a warning notification pop-up box might come up asking if you’re sure in executing this action. Tap ‘OK’ .
  7. Now the app is disabled and is pushed towards the end of the list. To enable, choose the app again and choose Enable.
Note that by disabling the app, the app will disappear from the App drawer until it is enabled once again in the settings page. To temporarily stop apps, you should choose the ‘Force Stop’ button while disabling it totally stops the app from being executed or functioning till it is enabled manually by the user.
