How to install a new hard drive on your computer

When you do not have disk space, we can increase total space by replacing existing hard disk with a larger or we can add a new or used as second hard disk.

If you replace the primary hard drive, you will need to reinstall the operating system. If you wish to reinstall your operating system, it will be cloned partition containing the operating system using EASEUS Disk Copy specific programs, HDClone, PC Inspector, Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost. Space which would always be used to make the copy partition with the operating system will be equal to or greater in size. For example, if you have a 30GB partition with Windows XP and a clone, destination disk should have at least 30GB free space (no partition).
How to choose your hard drive?
When choosing new hard disk, you need to know by what interface connects to the motherboard. Usually, the computers at home we have 2 types of interfaces: ATA and SATA.
ATA cable is a cable 40 or 80 wires arranged in parallel. SATA cable, however, has only 7 wires hooked together in insulation.

Differences between the two cable types:
- SATA cable being 2 SATA I and SATA II course, has a transfer speed of 1.5 Gb / s and 3.0 Gb / s. Instead ATA cable can transfer only 33, 66, 100 or 133 Mb / s depending on the hard disk and / or controller (chip on the motherboard that connects data between hard disk and south-bridge).
- SATA cable is thinner in diameter, allows for better airflow in the system.
- Compared with ATA interface, the SATA is hot-swap option, that hard drive can be removed / inserted into / from office without the need to stop the operating system.

Usually motherboards contain both types of interfaces that the system has a SATA hard disk. Instead, if the system has the ATA hard disk, you have to look on the motherboard or motherboard manual to check to see if you can support and SATA hard disks. It is preferable to buy a SATA hard disk because it is faster and costs less.

How to install the hard disk
1. There is a set of rules that must be followed to ensure that implementation of the new hard disk is correctly and safely:
- Always disconnect the computer power supply before placing a computer. Removing the power cable is the best.
- is good to know that a computer electronics are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. An electric discharge may damage some components. It is therefore ideal to use an electrostatic bracelet or exposed metal parts to touch (not painted) the computer before walking into the computer.
2.
Open the computer using a screwdriver by unscrewing surubelor attaching the side of the case.
3.
Locate the hard disk bay, which is usually in front of the computer.
4.
Make sure you set the jumpers correctly before turning the computer. This rule is valid only for ATA hard drives.
Why use jumpers ATA hard disks
Most motherboards have 1 or 2 IDE interfaces. Each interface supports up to 2 IDE hard disks. Master disc is called primary and secondary slave. Also, IDE interfaces are called Master, Slave respectively. Usually, hard disk master boot is on the operating system. ATA cables are usually three connectors on it: one to connect the cable to the motherboard and the other two coupling to two ATA hard drives.

For correct operation, each of the two hard drives which are mounted on an IDE cable must be configured Master and Slave. These configurations are obtained by changing the existing jumpers on the hard disk. If we only have an IDE hard drive, then that will be configured as Master.

Scheme of hard disk configuration in Master and Slave is written on hard-disk case. Each manufacturer of hard drives will write a unique configuration of its setting, so it is advisable to read the manual before installing the hard disk.

5. Find a free slot in your computer bay to enter the new hard disk. If there is already a hard disk bay, it is recommended to leave an empty space between the two hard drives to have a good air flow for cooling.
6.
Fix your hard drive right into the slot with some nut, two on each side of each hard disk.
7.
Connect the power supply cables and data cables.
8.
Check all cables and ensure they are properly connected.
9.
Close the computer case and start the unit.

  1. You have made some good points there. I checked on the internet for additional information about the issue and found most people will go
